Left. Centre of Riga Right. View from a castle of Gauja National Park FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT, THAT OF YOUR VISITORS OR TENANTS Latvia is truly one of the world’s most beautiful countries. Think of Canada encapsulated into a nation the size of Ireland. Few countries are perfect and here we put up with wild deer and elk on the highways, especially in winter, as they look for salt. You might find it irritating to find the beaver have built a dam feeding your fishing lake.
The squeals from children when they discover wild boar rustling in the undergrowth might disturb your reading. The boar won’t harm you but like any animal are best given distance when they have their very young with them. Nesting storks can be seen even during the shortest bike rides. They are as much at home as you are as they gaze across wheat plains; landscapes coloured by lavender or wild flowers. Sea or countryside, Latvia is a bird-watcher’s paradise.
If you like boating or just enjoy the sights and sounds of water in all of its natural splendour Latvia has 12,000 rivers and 3,000 lakes. This does not of course include the incredibly beautiful Baltic beaches. Their wild beauty and ease of access where you will have to enjoy entire stretches of virgin sand and sea similar to those more populated beaches in Baltic Germany a little further south.
If sport is your thing then look no further. Whatever region you choose to purchase there will be more activities than you can possibly handle. Let us for example take a look at Sigulda; a charming ‘town in a park’ an hour’s bus ride from Riga. This beautiful township of Canadian type country lanes, log cabins and inns, lakes and rivers, is enchanting. It is situated on the edge of the Gauja (River) National Park. Here, within a bike ride (which you can hire) you will access tree adventure parks, bobsleighing, paragliding, river rafting, visit medieval castles, canoeing, horse riding, walking and cycling trails, bungee jumping, visiting Soviet era bunkers, ballooning, song festivals, just to name a few activities and interests.
All this and more within two hours of Ireland and the UK: Bristol, Dublin, East Midlands, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London (Stansted).
