LATVIAN PROPERTY SPECIALISTS 12 YEARS The term ‘undiscovered gem' has become something of a cliché but you will find yourself saying it over and over again during a trip to Latvia. Geographically it is situated across the Baltic Sea from Sweden. With Estonia to the north and Lithuania to the south, Latvia is roughly the same size as the Republic of Ireland but with less than half its population. You often seem to have the countryside to yourself.
Tourists could be forgiven for thinking they are in Canada. The weather is similar; the seasons are as nature intended and very beautiful to experience. Winters can be cold but it is a dry, not a wet cold. This is why winter outdoor sports are so enjoyable, not to mention scenic. There is a saying here: ‘No such thing as bad weather; only bad clothing.’
Spring returns early in March and the meadows are bewitching. Summers are like Canada’s too; they can be very hot and the weather settled. It is good to be free of Britain’s unpredictable weather patterns. If you have always wanted to see Kentucky in the fall save your money and time; the colours of autumn in Latvia are beyond comparison.
Latvians adore their nation, its history and their culture. Here you will find few ethnicities other than Russian; the two peoples are similar and amicable. Latvians are unashamedly patriotic and Western pop plays second fiddle to the Latvian culture; its folk music; dances and dress. If you are a history buff you will be at home in Latvia. Likewise if you adore nature. In Latvia deer and beaver, boar and birds of prey are as free as you are. You cannot go far wthout seeing nesting storks.
Latvia’s capital, Riga, is a city of beautiful buildings scattered through the world’s most beautiful parks and is interwoven with delightful rivers, lakes and canals. Half Latvia’s population lives in Riga. The transport system is so clean, reliable and inexpensive you can happily get by without a car.
No wonder Riga is called the Pearl of the Baltic. It is 800 years old and you will be in awe at its Hanseatic architecture. The Latvians take great pride in their appearance; they are sociable, civil and welcoming. Latvia’s women are the most beautiful in the world. Here you will girls of incomparable natural beauty and elegance. I often wonder, do Latvians take such exquisite beauty and charm for granted or are they in awe of it too?
An hour’s bus ride from Riga is the Gauja National Park. It is a region of indescribable natural beauty. Endless forest, wild meadows, gorges, lakes, valleys and walks. Wherever you turn you see log cabins; rustic lanes, hamlets, rivers and – rustic peace. Property prices are very reasonable; cheaper than Spain and unless you are buying an apartment you can presume far more land than you will ever need to be self sufficient.
